Snowbirds - Wings Over the Sault - Sault Ste. Marie Airshow

June 10, 2009 at the Sault Ste. Marie Airport

The Wings Over The Sault featuring the Snowbirds took to the skies on Wednesday, June 10, 2009. The opening act, four Sault College Aviation Zlin aircraft presented their own show demonstrating formation flying. They were invited to show the community their expertise in flight and flight training and where local Snowbird Captain Steve Thompson got his wings.

Next up was the Hawk One - a Canadair Mark V F-86 Sabre fighter jet painted in the colours of the Royal Canadian Air Force’s (RCAF) Golden Hawks aerobatic team took to the air. It was joined by The Century Hornet, a CF-18 specially painted in gold and blue, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first powered flight in Canada. These aircraft were also joined by the original Snowbird Tutor, The Golden Centennaires. The Golden Centennaires were a formation team that was formed for the 1967 celebration of Canada's Centennial. For this year only, these three very special planes have joined the Snowbirds to create an once-in-a-lifetime air show….."Wings Over Sault Ste. Marie."

This was a free event for the fine citizens of Sault Ste Marie and area with all donations going to the Sault Ste. Marie Military Families Support group.
